Building Australia's Clean Energy Future

We are an Australian clean energy developer committed to using our extensive in-house knowledge to deliver world class projects with integrity and care. Utility-scale solar and Battery Energy Storage Systems are the core of our business and we continue to value developing greenfield projects throughout regional Australia.

Our experienced development team identify suitable land by undertaking an internal environmental impact assessment. The main areas of focus include but are not limited to: agriculture soil class and economics, acoustic impact to nearby dwellings, visual impact and local landscape, glint and glare potential, drainage and run off design, cultural heritage identification, biodiversity impact, traffic and dust design, bushfire risk mitigation, flood identification and mitigation, wetlands identification and watercourse set-backs.

About the Yanco BESS

ACEnergy is seeking approval to construct a large-scale solar energy project in Yanco to support New South Wales’s clean energy transition. The project is situated 1km southwest of Yanco on Houghton Road, approximately 5km south of Leeton in the Leeton Shire Government Area (LGA). The project site is 270 kms west of Canberra and 500 kms from Sydney.

This project aims to assist in New South Wales’s transition to cleaner energy sources and support the state’s efforts to rapidly reduce carbon emissions by ensuring a dependable and cost-effective power supply.

The proposed BESS will include containerised lithium-ion batteries with a capacity of 250 MW and 1000 MW-hours of energy. It will also involve an underground or overhead transmission line to connect to the TransGrid substation, along with associated infrastructure such as storage area, internal access tracks, on-site parking, security fencing, lighting and a control building.

The project aims to create job opportunities for up to 70 individuals during construction and have the capacity to power around 80,000 homes once completed.

Planning process

ACEnergy are seeking planning approval the Yanco BESS from the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) through a State Significant Development Application (SSDA). As the first step in this process, ACEnergy submitted a Scoping Report to DPHI in February 2024.

While developing the Scoping Report, ACEnergy engaged with community and stakeholders through door knocking, emails, phone calls, briefings, and adverts to begin conversations about the Yanco BESS. These conversations provided insight to community views, ideas, and questions about the project.

After reviewing the Scoping Report, Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs) were issued by DPHI and have identified what information needs to be included in the next stage of planning.

The next stage of the project planning process is to develop an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIS) which includes in-depth specialist reports, studies and assessment of the social, environmental and economic impacts of the project.

All available information will be publicly available on the NSW Major Projects website once they are complete.

Our Timeline

2023: the Scoping Report

The Scoping Report supported our preliminary application to Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) for the Secretary’s Environmental Assessment Requirements (SEARs). SEARs were issued in March and identified what information needs to be included in the next stage of planning (preparing the next report).

Mid 2024: Submit EIS and Public Exhibition

We will submit the EIS to DPHI who will publicly exhibit it for a minimum of 28 days. Anyone can make a submission to DPHI on the proposal and we will continue to engage with the community during this stage.

Late 2024: Prepare and Lodge Submissions Report

We will prepare a report to respond to submissions and may engage further with community and government agencies during this stage. Once the report is lodged, the DPHI will assess the proposal in line with government policy and legislation.

Early to mid-2025: Project determination

A Notice of Determination is issued which will include requirements for how the project must be built and operated.

Mid to late 2025

Construction starts and lasts about 8 months (if approved)

2026

Yanco BESS is operational (if approved)

Community input

ACEnergy are seeking to connect with local community members to understand your views, ideas, and questions as we work to develop the project design. We encourage you to call or email us with any questions, thoughts, points of view or concerns that you have at any stage of the project lifecycle.

Survey

Completing the survey will assist ACE in planning and designing the project to maximise benefits and minimise positive and negative impacts of the project. Share thoughts on local area values, project benefits, and concerns.

In-person information session

This is an opportunity for interested neighbours and stakeholders to meet the project team, learn about the project, ask questions and provide feedback on the project.

When: 3pm – 6pm, Tuesday 7 May 2024
Where: Yanco Powerhouse Museum, 13 Binya St, Yanco
